Super Mario Compact Disco is an album released only in Japan on August 1, 1993. The second part of the album's title is a pun on both "compact disc" and "disco". It features hip-hop and house arrangements of music from games in the Super Mario franchise performed by British musician Simon Harris under the moniker "Ambassadors of Funk". The main rapper, M.C. Mario, is voiced by fellow British musician Colin Case (also known as Einstein). He provides interstitials between raps, as if running a radio show. Simon Harris initially had no interest in video game music, but then his friend introduced him to Super Mario Land. He realised that the songs on the game's soundtrack had similar tempos to house music. This encouraged him to make "Supermarioland". Harris then contacted Nintendo to clear the music samples; they liked what he had done and asked him to record an album of Super Mario songs.

The lead single, "Supermarioland", was released only in Europe in October 1992, despite the rest of Super Mario Compact Disco not originally coming out there. It became a novelty hit, peaking at number eight on the UK Singles Chart. However, the single was never released in the United States because Nintendo of America "had no clue what we wanted to do, and were very unresponsive", according to Harris.^[2] Nintendo UK provided an actor for the song's music video, which was filmed at Chessington World of Adventures in London. The second and final single, "Go, Mario, Go!", was released only in Japan in 1993 and features five remixes of the titular song.

The album was later made available in the United States through iTunes,^[3] in addition to Amazon as an MP3 album or a manufacture-on-demand CD.^[4] For the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary, a special edition of the album titled Super Mario Compact Disco – 35th Anniversary Edition was released on October 22, 2020. It features remastered tracks and five bonus tracks.^[5] While the album is still on the obscure side, Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has praised it while Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri is credited as a supervisor. Super Mario Compact Disco has also been cited as a predecessor to nerdcore for similarly mixing hip-hop and video game music.
